Police have arrested 5 suspects in connection with the assault of the navy coast guards in Point Pedro.

Police headquarters stated that the suspects were arrested while they were felling mangroves in the Varani reserved lagoon area Yesterday.

Police said the suspects aged between 27 and 30 years are residents of Karaveddi and Varani.

A double cab and a motor cycle used by the suspects were also been seized by police.

In addition 4 cleavers have been recovered from their possession. 

Police headquarters also stated that on July 9th , the same suspects attacked the navy guard post at Katey Junction.

Meanwhile, IGP Pujitha Jayasundera arrived in Jaffna today after two police officers were assaulted recently at Kopay in Jaffna.

The IGP also visited the two injured policemen at Jaffna hospital.

A group of suspects who riding motor cycles assaulted the two policemen  officers near the Nandawil Amman Kovil on Sunday afternoon.

A surgery has also been performed on one of the policemen after he was admitted to Jaffna hospital.

No suspects have been arrested at this time.

4 police teams have been deployed ti carry out an investigation and see the  arrest of the suspects.
