IGP Pujitha Jayasundera states that the main suspect who was involved in the assault on two police officers in Kopay believed to have been a former LTTE member.

Addressing a media conference held at the Jaffna police station, the IGP said that the main suspect is a member of Aava group as well according to available information.

Addressing journalists, the IGP further said that 6 more suspects in the assault incident have been indentified already.

Meanwhile, IGP Pujitha Jayasundera visited Jaffna today after two police officers were assaulted at Kopay in Jaffna yesterday.

The IGP also visited the two injured policemen at Jaffna hospital.

A group of suspects that arrived on motor cycles assaulted two police officers near the Nandawil Amman Kovil yesterday noon.

A surgery was also performed on one of the policemen after he was admitted to Jaffna hospital.

The IGP also participated in a meeting about security in Jaffna which was held at the Jaffna divisional Secretariat.

Our correspondent stated that Northern Provincial chief minister C.V. Wigneshwaran also participated in this meeting.

Meanwhile, police arrested 5 suspects with 4 cleavers in their possession in connection with the assault on naval coast guards in Point Pedro.

Police headquarters stated that the suspects were arrested while they were felling mangroves in Varani reserved lagoon area yesterday.
