Speaker Karu Jayasuriya has decided to take disciplinary action against the members who behaved in an unruly manner in parliment on Friday.

It was scheduled during that session, to take  the adjournment debate over the Hambantota Harbor agreement.

The Speaker’s Office stated that video footage is being analysed to determine who was responsible for initiating the uproar.

Parliament was adjourned last Friday, and will remain so, until August 4th after conducting a vote taking to pass the gazette to declare Petroleum distribution as an essential service.

Later, a group of Joint Opposition MPs sat on the chairs reserved for the speaker and the President while their fellow group rang the bell to call parliamentarians.

The Speaker’s office stated that the ruling party and parliament workers have complained to the speaker against this action.

Accordingly, video footage recorded from one angle was analysed yesterday.

Speaker’s Office stated that the rest of the video footage will also be looked at and, the opinion of the house will be sought after, before taking disciplinary action against those responsible.
