IUSF protest march reaches Colombo;Convenor further remanded

The protest march started by IUSF together with several other student activists’ organizations from Peradeniya University reached Colombo this afternoon.

The protesters marched for 5 days before they reached Colombo to hold a rally.

National Trade Union Center and Labor struggle Center also joined in the march when it passed Kadawatha at 11.30am today.

Meanwhile, Colombo Fort Magistrate issued an injunction against the protest march. The injunction stated that the march should not disturb public transportation and the general public.

Another injunction was issued in the afternoon against 10 IUSF members by the fort Magistrate prohibiting them to enter the premises of the Prime Minister’s Office, Temple Trees, American Embassy and Indian High Commission.

Meanwhile, our correspondents stated that several political party representatives are also participating in the anti SAITM protest rally being held in front of Fort Railway station.

Convenor of the IUSF Lahiru Weerasekara who was arrested for forcibly entering the Health Ministry and damaging public property has been further remanded until the 8th of August.

Maligakanda Magistrate also ordered to further remand IUSF Bhikku front convenor Tampitiye Sugathanansa thero until the 8th.

However, the Colombo Magistrates court ordered another 3 students who were arrested over the incident to be released on bail.
