Former Minister of Finance and current Minister of Foreign Affairs Ravi Karunanayake stated a few minutes before that he is officially resigning from his post.

He made this announcement delivering a special statement in the parliament.

Minister Ravi attended a special meeting with the President and the Prime Minister at the Presidents Secretariat Office yesterday.

In addition to our news team receiving confirmation of this meeting taking palace from State minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena, our correspondents personally witnessed minister Ravi Karunanayake, Rajitha Senaratne and Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe enter the premises of the Presidents secretariats office yesterday.

It was noted however that minister Karunanayake was not present at the cabinet meeting that was held at the president’s secretariats office yesterday morning.

Government ministers of the SLFP had met with the President and Premier earlier in the day, and had requested that Minister Ravi Karunanayake be asked to resign or have him removed from the post.

Meanwhile, with regard to the no confidence motion filed against minister Karunanayake, the date that the debate will take place, is to be decided at the party leaders meeting today.

Meanwhile, making a statement regarding the resignation of Minister Ravi Karunanayake, Opposition Leader R.Sambandhan stated that what minister Ravi did is a very good example of good governance to be followed by others.

Moreover, Prime Minister Ranil Wickramasinghe remarked that Minister Ravi had informed him regarding his decision before, yet officially discussed the matter with the president yesterday.
