The National Council for road safety states that an investigation has been initiated to determine why motor cycles are halved on impact during an accident.

Council Chairman Dr. Sisira Kodhaagoda told our news team that numerous complaints of such instances have been reported.

Dr. Kodhaagoda stated that the manufacturing standards of motorcycles will be scrutinized during the investigation.

Meanwhile, Dr. Kodagoda said that with regards to payment of fines for traffic offences, arrangements will be made for offenders to pay off the fine through the Courts.

The Cabinet yesterday approved implementation of the new minimum fine of 25 thousand rupees.

Addressing todays media conference to inform of Cabinet decisions, Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka said the new minimum fine imposed for driving without a valid license, drunk driving, the illegal crossing of a railway track, and driving a vehicle without valid insurance cover.
