The cabinet ministers had discussed corruptions that had allegedly taken place during the time of the previous government.

President Maithripala Sirisena was at the chair at yesterday’s cabinet meeting when several ministers raised this issue.

At this meeting several ministers had stated that although the present government has been in power for almost two and a half years, fraud and corruption allegedly had taken place during the former regime had not been properly dealt with.

Responding to a query posed by our news team, a senior government minister said that due to this, the ministers had requested that a special court be set up to probe such fraud and corruption allegations.

Meanwhile, expressing views about the request, Minister Dr. Wijedasa Rajapaksa said that steps could be taken to establish such a court, if relevant constitutional amendments are brought in.
