The officials of the beat office of the department of wildlife conservation have arrested a group of persons who had engaged in illegal activities in Galkiriyagama range of the Kahalla, Pallekele forest reserve.

Hunters, illegal sand miners and cattle rustlers were among the group that was apprehended during raids carried out last night and this morning.

The officers recovered two deer carcasses, firearms, live ammunition, knives, and torches, two tractors loaded with sand, a tipper and another lorry.

The wildlife officers said the suspect may have brought in the lorry to transport buffalos.

The head of wildlife beat office in Galkiriyagama said that they apprehended seven suspects during their raids.
