Colombo Magistrate Court today (21) refused to recall warrants issued against former Sri Lankan Ambassador to Russia, Udayanga Weeratunga.

The former Ambassador earlier this month requested through his lawyers to recall the arrest warrant issued against him through the Interpol.

He wanted the travel ban imposed on him be recalled as well.

In June, the Colombo Fort Magistrate ordered to impound two passports belonging to former Ambassador.

The order was issued by Colombo Fort Magistrate Lanka Jayaratne.

While refusing to support the requests, the Magistrate said Weeratunga should surrender to the courts or police without making requests through his lawyers to recall warrants issued against him.

Udayanga Weeratunga is accused of financial fraud in the controversial MIG aircraft transaction.
