Treasury releases Rs. 1.5bn for drought relief

Treasury has released 1.5 billion rupees to District Secretaries through the Ministry of Disaster Management to distribute dry food rations among drought affected people.

Distribution of dry rations has already commenced in Puttalam, Kurunegala, Kilinochchi, Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Anuradhapura, Polonnaruwa and Monaragala districts.

The drought affected people in Batticaloa, Trincomalee, Ampara, Badulla, Hambantota, Vavuniya and Mannar will be also given dry rations, the President’s Media Division said.

The data showed that 500,000 families in 15 districts have been affected by dry weather.
