The official from the Buddhist Affairs Commissioner's Office who was sent to probe the Katargama Devala dispute has found that the income of the Devalaya was the reason for the dispute.

Last Tuesday (22), for the first time, the early morning 'pooja' of the historic shrine did not take place due to a dispute between the Basnayake Nilama and the caretakers of the Devalaya.

It was found that the key of the shrine was taken away by the Basnayake Nilame and the shine was opened for devotees at around 7am following the intervention of police and devotees.

Later, Commissioner General of Buddhist Affairs, Nimal Kotawelagedara sent one of assistant commissioners to Kataragama to look into the matter.
