A five-member delegation from the European Union is scheduled to arrive in the island on the 5th of September to conduct a formal monitoring of the the GSP Plus trade concession given to Sri Lanka.

The delegation from the European Union Headquarters in Brussels, will be in the country until the 13th of September.

The European Union envoy to Sri Lanka and the Maldives, Paul Godfrey stated the EU has initiated a formal monitoring of the 27 international conventions being practiced in Sri Lanka which is linked to the GSP Plus.

He added that the European Union is offering a concessions worth 2.6 billion Euros for exports from Sri Lanka each year.

Following this year’s monitoring assessment, the EU is to conduct two reviews with regard to GSP Plus trade concession in the years of 2018 and 2020.
