Later, the sittings at the Western Provincial Council was postponed to 4th of September today (28).

The decision was reached following a tensed situation that obstructed the sessions when it began this morning.

The tensed situation began when the council prepared to debate the 20th Amendment to the constitution.

Even the mace was damaged during the melee.

Thereafter, the sittings were suspended and convened a party leaders meeting.

Once the sittings began again, the Chief Minister Isura Devapriya proposed to postpone the vote on 20A.

Accordingly, 51 councilors voted in favour of postponing the vote on the 20A, and 41 members opposed it.

Later, the sittings were suspended until the 4th of September.

The Sabaragamuwa Provincial Council also decided to postpone the debate on 20the Amendment to the constitution.

The amendment seeks to hold the provincial council election on a same day.

Meanwhile, Paffrel Organization announced today (28), that they have decided to seek the view of the Supreme Court whether 20A could be passed without a referendum.

The Paffrel said they would file the petition seeking clarifications on three areas.
