Kayts police in Jaffna has recorded statements from five other students regarding the boat tragedy in the seas off the Elithivu jetty in Jaffna.

7 A/L students drowned when their ill-fated boat capsized on Monday (28) when they decided to visit a nearby island to celebrate the birthday of one of the victims.

6 students died and one survived in the incident. The survivor has also given a statement to the police.

The friends were intending to celebrate the 18th birthday of Jayashanth Thinesh who was a resident in Urumpirai in Jaffna.

Further investigations revealed that the group was under the influence of liquor and their boat was not in sound condition.
