An attempt to smuggle in abortion tablets foiled

Sri Lanka Customs Media Spokesperson, Sunil Jayaratne says an Indian male who had attempted to smuggle in 1,630 tablets used for abortions, was detained at the BIA last night (29).

The suspect had tried to depart from the airport through the 'Green Channel".

The Customs Media Spokesperson said the estimated value of the drugs was 2.3 million rupees.

He also said the tablets were forfeited and a penalty of 100,000 rupees was imposed on the suspect before he was released.
