Former Army Commander General Jagath Jayasuriya says that the Government should go beyond issuing statements claiming that there is no electric chair or international war crimes investigation against Sri Lanka and obtain a UN assurance that such an action will not take place.

The former Army Commander was responding to a query made by our news team regarding a case instituted by an NGO against him under the war crime charges.

A South American Human Rights Organization has filed war crime charges against the former Army Commander at courts in Brazil and Colombia.

In the allegations filed, the NGO says that General Jagath Jayasuriya was personally responsible, as being the one who gave orders to army units during the final phase of the humanitarian operation.

The Executive Directress Yasmin Sooka of the Project for International Truth and Justice, responsible for filing the allegations had said that she hoped that the General would face court actions.
