Commission investigating massive frauds and corruptions seeks 6 month extension to its tenure

The Presidential Commission of Inquiry to Investigate and Inquire into Serious Acts of Fraud, Corruption and Abuse of Power, State Resources and Privileges has requested the President to extend its tenure by another 6 months.

Secretary of the Commission H.W. Gunadasa told our news team that this request has been made, as the official tenure of the Commission expired yesterday (03).

The Commission, which was appointed on March 3, 2015 received 1,599 complaints. The President has already extended the term of the Commission on two previous occasions.

The Commission has investigated 17 such massive fraud and corruption cases and their reports have already been handed over to the President.

Secretary of the Commission, H. W. Gunadasa said reports of another 17 cases will be handed over in the near future.
