The resolution to postpone the presentation of the 20th amendment to the constitution for debate in the Western Provincial Council was passed with majority of votes today (04) for the second time.

77 voted in favour of the resolution while 5 voted against. Two members abstained. SLFP and UNP members voted for the resolution while 4 JVP members and Joint Opposition member voted against.

Our correspondent stated that UNP member Srinath Perera abstained from voting. Western Provincial Chief Minister Isura Devapriya told our news team that the resolution will be presented to the Council on next Monday.

When the previous resolution was presented to the Council on the 28th of August, it received 51 votes. 41 members including Joint Opposition and JVP voted against the resolution.

However, majority of the Joint Opposition Members voted for the resolution when the vote taking was conducted today.
