More than 150 houses were damaged with roofs being blown away in many, when strong winds battered 4 Gramaseva divisions in Kaduruwela in Polonnaruwa.

Our reporters confirmed that the storms last afternoon caused temporary power cuts in the area.

The Disaster Management Centre said that the army was deployed last night to assist to provide relief to affected residents.

The Met Department states that the ongoing showers in the South-Western part of the country is expected to enhance to a certain extent over the next few days.

Showers or thunderstorms will occur periodically in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-western provinces, the Department said.
