Rs. 6.6mn worth illegal cigarettes detected at Colombo Port

Customs staff attached to the Port Control Unit detected 133,980 sticks of foreign cigarettes valued at 6.6 million rupees from a Vietnamese ship named MV THAI BINH 039 that was transporting cement, last evening (05).

The ship was captained by a Vietnamese.

After initial investigations, the haul of contraband was confiscated and the captain was imposed a fine of 1 million rupees.
