The Meteorological Department predicts that the prevailing showery condition over the island, particularly in the South Western part is expected to continue.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces, the Department said.  Heavy rainfalls of 150mm are expected at some places.

The Duty Meteorologist Buddhika Banduratne stated that showers and thundershowers will occur elsewhere particularly after 2pm.

Ratnapura is the worst affected district by the prevailing wet weather and a mild flood condition was occurred in certain areas of the district due to the overflowing of the Kalu Ganga.

The Disaster Management Centre said that Elapatha, Batugedera, Kuruwita and Gaetangama were inundated.

Ratnapura District Secretary, Malani Lokupothagama told our news team that as a result of the flood condition in Ayagama, 220 families were accommodated at three welfare camps.

The Disaster Management Centre said now the flood is subsiding.
