Prevailing showery condition over the island, particularly in the South Western part is expected to continue.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at times in the Western, Southern, Sabaragamuwa, Central and North-Western provinces.

Heavy falls about 150mm are expected at some places particularly in the Western, Sabaragamuwa and Central provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Showers or thundershowers will occur elsewhere particularly after 2.00 p.m.

The Duty Meteorologist, Buddhika Banduratne stated that fairly heavy falls are expected at some places, particularly in the Uva province and in Ampara and Batticaloa districts.

Ratnapura District Secretary Malani Lokupotagama told our news team that 4057 members of 1077 families in the district are been affected by the inclement weather.

She said that certain areas of Ayagama, Elapatha, Paldola, Batugedara, Eheliyagoda and Kuruwita are still submerged.

Meanwhile, the Disaster Management Center warned residents living in low lying areas of Millaniya, Bulathsinhala, Agalawatta and Ingiriya to be on alert as one of the sluice gates of Kukuleganga reservoir is still kept open.

In addition, 7126 members of 1702 families in Wattala, Mahara, Attanagalle, Biyagama, Dompe and Kelaniya areas have been affected due to the overflowing of the Attanagalle Oya.

Meanwhile, the 71st convention of the UNP which was scheduled to be held this Sunday at the Ratnapura Seevali stadium has been postponed.

It has been reported that the decision was taken following the adverse weather which has affected the Ratnapura district.

A meeting was held regarding the matter yesterday in the parliament under the patronage of the UNP General Secretary, Minister Kabir Hashim.

It was reported that the decision was taken following this meeting.
