17,000 people have been affected in the Gampaha and Ratnapura districts as a result of heavy showers experienced in the South Western parts of the island.

The Disaster Management Centre said that the minor flood situation in Ratnapura, caused by the Kalu Ganga overflowing, has not subsided yet.

Meanwhile, a sluice gate of the Kukuleganga Reservoir is remained open.

The landslide warning issued for Kegalle, Ratnapura, Kalutara, Galle and Nuwara-eliya districts is still in effect.

The Ministry of Defence said that three-forces’ personnel and boats have been deployed to provide relief in affected areas.

The Met Department stated that prevailing showery condition over the island, particularly in the south western part is expected to continue and cloudy skies can be expected at most parts of the island.
