The Meteorological Department says that showery conditions over the island is expected to enhance temporary from today onwards until Thursday.

Showers or thundershowers will occur at most parts of the island after 2pm today, the department predicted. Showers will occur at several places in the Western and Sabaragamuwa provinces and in Galle and Matara districts.

Fairly heavy rainfalls above 75mm are expected at some places, particularly in the Eastern province and in Galle, Matara, Ratnapura, Mullaitivu and Polonnaruwa districts.

Deputy Director of the Disaster Management Centre, Pradeep Kodippili stated that sluice gates of Lakshapana and Kukuleganga reservoirs are still open.

Meanwhile, schools which were closed in Ratnapra, Kuruwita, Eheliyagoda, Ayagama and Elapatha Divisional Secretariats areas due to adverse weather will be reopened today (11).
