Sri Lanka Medical Council to discuss recommendations on SAITM

The Sri Lanka Medical Council has convened a special meeting tomorrow.

A senior Council member said that the meeting is expected to discuss the recommendations made by the 5-member committee appointed by President Maithripala Sirisena to look into the SAITM issue.

The committee comprises of Deputy Minister Dr. Harsha de Silva, Secretaries of Health and Higher Education Ministries and the Chairman of University Grant Commission, Professor Mohan de Silva.

In addition, the Additional Solicitor General Sanjaya Rajarathnam was also in the committee.

Meanwhile, GMOA said that no member of the Sri Lanka Medical Council is included in the Committee.

The GMOA Media Spokesperson, Dr. Samantha Ananda said that his organization will reject this report, if it does not make recommendations to protect patients’ rights.

This report was due to be presented to President Maithripala Sirisena today.
