The Government Medical Officers' Association has launched a token strike in nine districts.

Accordingly, the strike is carried out in the Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Mullaittiv, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa, Hambantota and Nuwara Eliya districts.

Similarly, it has been planned to hold the strike tomorrow in the Vavuniya, Matale, Ampara, Badulla, Moneragala and Matara districts and day-after-tomorrow the strike will be held in the Anuradhapura, Kurunegala, Kandy, Ratnapura and Galle districts.

Meanwhile, the Medical Council Committee appointed for formulating the minimum standards to be considered in admission of students to the Medical Colleges had met last afternoon (11).

That was to discuss about the 18 amended prerequisites the University Grants Commission had put forwarded for recruiting students for the Malabe Private Medical College.

Three months ago the Medical Council had formulated the relevant minimum standards for admission of students to a medical college. However, the Legal Draftsman’s Department had informed the UGC as to how those prerequisites should be amended.

A Medical Council spokesperson told our news team that most of the amended requisites were approved at the committee for formulating the minimum standards.

They have decided to refer those amendments to a special Medical Council meeting to be held today (12).
