SAITM Committee report presented, GMOA strike cripples hospitals in 8 districts

The Presidential Committee appointed to make recommendations to settle the SAITM issue handed over their report to President Maithripala Sirisena last afternoon (11).

The Head of the Committee, Deputy Minister Harsha de Silva confirmed it to our news team.

Meanwhile, the GMOA strike that is underway in 8 districts, has disrupted hospital functions.

The GMOA said they have staged the protest to show their opposition to the stance taken by the Committee on the SAITM issue.

The strike is being held district-wise until 15th of September. Accordingly, hospital functions in Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mannar, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Batticaloa, Polonnaruwa, Hambantota and Nuwara Eliya have been affected.

The OPD and clinical services were the worst affected.

Meanwhile, protest motorcades were also launched from Jaffna, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Tissamaharama this morning against the SAITM. The motorcades will reach Colombo by Saturday.
