Former Deputy Minister Arundika Fernando says although he has been removed from the Deputy Ministerial post, he would not leave Sri Lanka Freedom Party.

Earlier today (12), the President issued a directive to remove him from his post. When contacted, he told us, he was anyway planning to resign from the Government.

Arundika Fernando was elected to parliament in the 2015 General election from the Puttalam District. Later, he was sworn in as Deputy Minister of Home Affairs.

However, President’s Media Unit announced later that Tourism Promotions and Christian Affairs Deputy Minister Nimal Lanza and Arundika Fernando exchanged their ministry portfolios.

Arundika Fernando repeatedly stated during the last few weeks that a group of SLFP Ministers had decided to quit their posts.

They had a discussion with President Maithripala Sirisena last Thursday.

This is the first time that President Sirisena removed a SLFP Minister.

Earlier, the President removed Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe from Justice Ministry Portfolio at the request of UNP.
