12 Indian fishermen caught off Katchatheevu Island

Naval personnel attached to the Northern Naval Command apprehended 12 Indian fishermen along with their 2 trawlers for poaching in the Sri Lankan territorial waters about 2 nautical miles North-East of the Katchatheevu Island yesterday (11).

The arrested fishermen were brought to the naval base in Kankesanthurai and the trawlers and the fishing gear were taken to Karainagar.

The arrested fishermen were handed over to the Assistant Director of Fisheries in Jaffna for legal action.
