Addressing a media conference in Colombo this morning (15), the General Secretary of the Lanka Viduli Sevaka Sangamaya, Ranjan Jayalal said that the government pressurizing the unions to suspend the strike.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy accuses that the striking trade unions do not show any interest to end their strike and they are not flexible to accept the solutions proposed by the Ministry.

The Ministry Media Spokesman Sulakshana Jayawardana said that a set of proposals have been presented to trade unions.

The trade unions had a discussion with the subject Minister yesterday (14), and it concluded without a settlement.

Based on that outcome, the Ministry announced that all temporary and casual workers who failed to report to duty by 8.30am this morning will be considered as having vacated their posts.

The CEB unions commenced their strike on last Wednesday, urging the authorities to rectify their salary anomalies and investigate an alleged fraud linked to salaries of top officials of the CEB.
