CEB trade Unions threaten to surround Ministry

The Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy says that they have obtained the support of Police to ensure the safety of transformers and electricity supply lines in the face of the ongoing strike by the Ceylon Electricity Board employees.

The Ministry has taken this decision after several acts of sabotage were reported from different parts of the island. The CEB trade unions launched the strike on 13th urging the authorities to rectify their salary anomalies.

They also charged that there’s a fraud relating to payment of salaries to the top administrative officers of the CEB and it should be investigated.

They say that they would continue their strike irrespective of any challenges they might encounter.

The Secretary of the Lanka Viduli Sevaka Sangamaya, Ranjan Jayalal said that although the Ministry had requested retired employees to report to work, none had come so far.

The Media Spokesperson of the Ministry Sulakshana Jayawardana said that if the trade unions were willing to be flexible, the Ministry is open for discussions.

Ranjan Jayalal said that Ministry does not have any intention to solve their issues and threatened that they are prepared to surround the Ministry.
