Talks fail, CEB strike continues

The discussions between CEB unions and Power and Renewable Energy Minister Ranjith Siyambalapitiya and Labor Minister W.D.J. Senevirathna failed to find a solution to end the ongoing strike by the CEB trade unions.

However, the talks will continue until an amicable solution is found, a source said.

The Secretary of Lanka Viduli Sevaka Sangamaya Ranjan Jayalal told our news team that the strike is continuing despite the ongoing discussions.

The CEB strike, which was launched last Wednesday (13), demanding their salary anomalies to be rectified and to investigate an alleged fraud relating to the salaries of the top management of the CEB.

Meanwhile, power breakdowns were reported from different parts of the island including Ampara, Kalutara, Puttalam and Matara districts since the beginning of the strike.

Meanwhile, Ceylon Electricity Board Technological Engineers’ and Superintendents’ Union convened a media conference today (18).

The Union’s President, Ajith Munasinghe said that over 1500 members of his union will join in the ongoing strike with effect from midnight if a solution is not found.

At the same time, a group of representatives of the Jathika Sevaka Sangamaya had held discussions with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe and Prime Minister's Chief of Staff, Minister Sagala Ratnayake with regard to the ongoing strike, this afternoon.
