The Combined CEB Trade Union Alliance says that they will continue the strike until their demands are met.

Accordingly, the island-wide strike by CEB employees will continue for a seventh day, today (19).

Meanwhile, the convener of the Combined CEB Trade Union Alliance, Ranjan Jayalal told our news team  that two rounds of discussions held yesterday (18) with the Minister of Labour  and Trade Union Relations W. D. J. Senevirathna were unsuccessful.

CEB Technological Engineer's and Superintendent's Union was also invited for the talks last afternoon and they too wanted to resolve their issues as soon as possible.

Meanwhile, power failures have been reported in  several areas during the last 7 days, however the Ministry of Power and Renewable Energy stated that most of those failures were a result of acts of sabotage.

Reporters said that power cuts were prevalent in various areas including Ampara, Agalawattha, Padiyathalawa and Puttalam.

Earlier the Minister of Power and Renewable Energy, Ranjith Siyambalapitiya issuing a communiqué urged the CEB workers to report for work.

He also promised to consider paid leave for 14th and 15th of September.
