The 20th amendment to the constitution has been passed in the Central Provincial Council, with a majority vote.

The resolution has received 40 votes in favour while 9 councilors had opposed it.

Our correspondent confirmed that 2 members abstained from voting.

Earlier, the resolution on draft 20th amendment was passed in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, North Western, Eastern and the North Central Provincial Councils.

However, it was defeated in the Uva and the Southern Provincial Councils.

The Northern Provincial Council is yet to take a decision.

Meanwhile, the speaker is scheduled to announce the Supreme Court decision on the 20th amendment, when the parliament convenes this afternoon.
