A tensed situation was prevailing in the Parliament with the tabling of the Provincial Council Election Draft Bill, this morning (20).

The leader of the Joint Opposition, Dinesh Gunawardena asked the Speaker, Karu Jayasuriya whether the draft bill was presented to the provincial councils for their approval.

He raised the question under standing orders.

Responding to that the Speaker said there's no need to present it to the provincial councils.

While different opinions being exchanged, the Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Governments, Faizer Mustapha started the debate on the amendment bill.

However, the tensed situation continued to disrupt the sittings and then the Speaker decided to adjourn the parliament until 12 noon.
