The villagers of the Buruthenkanda area in Suriyawewa, Hambantota staged a protest from this morning, after a 60-year-old woman died in a wild elephant attack.

The protestors have blocked the Sooriyawewa-Padalangala Road, hampering the vehicular traffic on the road.

Police said that the wild elephant has attacked woman while she was sweeping her garden.

The Divisional Secretary has visited the place to look into the matter, then the protestors have detained him.

Then he had promised to find a solution to this issue after having discussions with relevant authorities.

The villagers said that they face a number of difficulties due to this wild elephant issue.
