Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam has also called for a report on the incident where schoolgirls had been used to display a wedding saree fall, during an attempted Guinness record in Kandy yesterday (21).

The Education Minister has issued a directive to the Ministry Secretary to look into the incident and present a report to him.

The fall was around 3km long and schoolgirls of Alawathugoda Primary School lined up along the Kandy-Gannoruwa Road displaying it.

However, that school does not come under the purview of the Ministry of Education and it is coming under the Central Provincial Council.

The Education Ministry in a statement says that the circulars which are issued by it as a line Ministry, are valid for all the schools in the country.

Earlier, the National Child Protection Authority also said that they are launching an investigation into the incident.

It was reported that around 250 schoolgirls had been used for the purpose.
