A decisive discussion on minimum standards of medical education will be held this week.

Health Minister Dr. Rajitha Senarathna while confirming it said that the Gazette on standards of medical education will also be issued soon.

He added a meeting in this regard will be held on 27th of this month.

However, the Government Medical Officers' Association accuses that the assurance given by the Health Minister to Gazette minimum standards for medical education has limited to a mere statement.

They also said attempts are being made by the Health Minister to transfer the powers of Sri Lanka Medical Council to another entity.

The GMOA Central Committee member, Dr. Prasad Colombage said that the Health Minister is trying to hoodwink all by saying that it will be done to streamline Sri Lanka's medical education.
