Former Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe was arrested by the Police Special Investigation Unit, a short while ago.

He was summoned to the Unit this morning (25) to record a statement on his alleged involvement in withholding or hiding facts/information relating to a murder took place in Kahawatte, on 5th of January 2015.

In this case, a group including the former Deputy Minister is accused of murdering a person by shooting in Kahawatte area, during the Presidential Election.

During this period, Jayasinghe was the Senior DIG in charge of the Sabaragamuwa.

It is reported that the former SDIG has influenced his subordinates not to include former Deputy Minister Jayasekera's name in the 'B' report.

When contacted, Director of the SIU, SSP Mevan de Silva said, the suspect will be produced before the courts.

Police record statement from SDIG Jayasinghe

Police Media Spokesperson's Office says former Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe has been summoned to the Police Special Investigation Unit, at the Police Head Quarters.

He has been summoned to record a statement on alleged hiding of information relating to a case involving former Deputy Minister Premalal Jayasekera.

In this case, a group including the former Deputy Minister is accused of murdering a person by shooting in Kahawatte area on 05.01.2015, during the Presidential Election.

During this period, Jayasinghe was the Senior DIG in charge of the Sabaragamuwa Province.

At present, Jayasinghe is on bail as he is accused of helping the main suspect in Vidya's murder case, Swiss Kumar, to evade police arrest.
