Police have taken into custody a group of Myanmar refugees from a house in Mount Lavinia. Police said the Myanmar refugees were taken into their custody for their safety after a group of Buddhist monks staged a protest nearby that house.

Police said they were apprehended this morning (26) and the group included 30 Myanmar refugees. They were arrested in Kankesanthurai, few months back and then handed over to the Colombo Office of United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.

Then the UNHCR had kept the refugees at a rented house in Mount Lavinia.
