Vidya's mother, Saraswathi Sivaloganathan expressed her gratitude to all those who worked hard to ensure justice is done for her daughter's death.

However, she said always her daughter comes to her mind.

She expressed these views following the verdict of Vidya's murder case was delivered by the Jaffna High Court today (27).

The 3-member bench sentenced 7 suspects to death over the murder of 18-year-old schoolgirl Shivaloganathan Vidya in Punkudithivu, Kaytes in Jaffna on 13th of May 2015.

Meanwhile, a member of the 3-judge bench, Jaffna High Court Judge Ilancheliyan Manickavasagar said that actions of State Minister Vijayakala Maheshwaran cannot be approved.

He said that the State Minister's attempt to prove the innocence of the main suspect in Vidya's murder, Mahalingam Sashikumar could not be accepted.

However, Swiss Kumar who used various influences to reach Colombo and attempt to flee the country. However, he was arrested by police in Wellawatta before he escaped.

In the meantime, State Minister Vijayakala Maheshwaran was also questioned by CID in connection with the murder and, a former Senior DIG Lalith Jayasinghe was arrested for allegedly aiding Swiss Kumar to escape the area.

Former DIG Jayasinghe was released on bail later.

State Minister Maheswaran denied any involvement in the crime.

In this background, the Attorney General made a written request from Chief Justice Priyasad Depp to appoint a special trail-at-bar to hear this case.

The suspects were sued under 47 counts of charges.

There were 9 suspects in this case and 2 of them were acquitted by the bench.

The bench included Vavuniya High Court Judge Balendran Sashi Mahendran, Jaffna High Court Judge Ilancheliyan Manickavasag, r and Trincomalee High Court Judge Annalingam Premashankar.

The verdict was delivered by High Court Judge Balendran Sashi Mahendran and, Jaffna High Court Judge Manickavasagar Ilancheliyan.

The second suspect Poobalasingham Jeyakumar, 3rd suspect Poobalasingham Thavakumar, 4th suspect Mahalingam Shashidaran, 5th suspect Thillenathan Chandrahasan, 6th suspect Sivadevan Dushanth alias Periyammbi, 8th suspect Jeyadaran Kokilan and 9th suspect Mahalingam Sashikumar alias Swiss Kumar were sentenced to death.
