Army Commander, Lt. General Mahesh Senanayake refutes allegations of Northern Chief Minister C. V. Vigneswaran who had alleged that 180,000 troops are in the North and East areas.

The Army Commander also said that the recent visit of Northern CM to Kandy was a positive change and even he had called him to say so.

Lt. General Senanayake said that he stressed the Northern CM of the importance of working together to take the country forward.

He went on to say that security forces have been deployed in different parts of the country after evaluating the security situation in those areas and for strategic reasons.

He stressed in these circumstances there's no necessity to remove troops from the North.

The Army Commander expressed these views after visiting the sacred Dalada Maligawa in Kandy today (28).
