Northern Provincial Councilor M. K. Sivajilingam has moved a resolution at the Northern Provincial Council condemning the protests staged in Mount Lavinia against a group of Rohingya refugees.

The resolution further says that if those refugees are handed over to the Northern Provincial Council, the Council would guarantee their safety

Northern Provincial Councilor, A. Jayathilaka told our news team that councillors from all parties supported the resolution.

Meanwhile, a group of representatives from the investigation unit of the Sri Lanka Human Rights Commission visited the Boossa centre last afternoon to look into the security situation of the refugee group.

The refugee group which included 16 children were detected by Sri Lanka Coast Guard in the seas off Kankesanthurai in April this year.

Later, they were handed over to the Colombo office of UN High Commissioner for Refugees.
