President reiterates the new constitution does not down-scale foremost position given for Buddhism or the Unitary State concept.

President Maithripala Sirisena said that the Sections with regard to Buddhism in the 1972 Constitution will not be removed or downscaled in the new Constitution.

He also said that the Union Government Concept will not be included in the new Constitution either.

President Sirisena made this statement while speaking at the ceremony organized to hand over credentials to Ven. Girambe Mangala Thera in his appointment as the new Chief Prelate of the Upcountry Amarapura Samasri Sangha Sabah in Ampara today (29).
