President says Government's objective and responsibility is to remove all barriers adverse to the positive growth of the children in accordance with the United Nation’s Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Issuing a message, to mark the World Children's Day, the President said, "Child is the universal symbol of purity, innocence, and beauty". He added all children born in this world are creators of the future destiny of the humankind irrespective of their country of origin, race or religion.

The President in his message to mark the World Elders' Day says elders are the most experienced senior community of a country.

He said although Sri Lanka's elder population has been rising fast, it will never be a burden to the society. He said Sri Lankans respect family unit concept and within that elders are taken care of with a special attention.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe said in his Children’s Day message that Children whose future lies in the world of tomorrow and the elderly, who are spending the evening of their lives today, are the focus of the UN Day for Children and Elders, which is marked today (01).

While being conscious of the need to protect our children and be attentive to their requirements, the Premier said that we also must be able to understand and respond to the issues faced by them.
