President Maithripala Sirisena has expressed his condolences over the shooting incident in Las Vegas where over 59 confirmed dead and over 500 were injured.

In his Twitter account, the President said, "Shooting is a heinous act. My sympathies are with loved ones of the victims and the people of United States in this hour of grief".

At least 59 people were killed and 527 injured in Las Vegas Sunday night when a gunman opened fire on a music festival crowd from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, in what is now the deadliest shooting in modern US history.

The death toll from the incident could possibly go up, said Clark County Coroner John Fudenberg.
