People's Action for Free and Fair Election (Paffrel) has urged the IGP to implement the law against an alleged incident where the Deputy Election Commissioner of Kandy had been threatened by a person who had identified himself as a Coordinating Secretary of Minister Lakshman Kiriella.

Paffrel issuing a statement said the Deputy Election Commissioner of Kandy, Namal Thalangama had been threatened by a person named Waruna Liyanage.

The incident had occurred when the Deputy Election Commissioner of Kandy was finalizing and checking the changes in the electoral list of 2017, at the District Election Office.

The Minister's staffer had forcibly entered the office and had forced the Deputy Election Commissioner of Kandy to register a name of a supporter to an address close to a prominent school in the area.

The supporter was not a resident of that area.

Paffrel says they are eagerly waiting to see the actions to be taken by the Minister on this incident.

The statement added that Namal Thalangama did his best disregarding threats to his life during the last election to ensure that the election was free and fair.
