Minister of  Labour, Trade Union Relations and Sabaragamuwa Development W. D. J. Senevirathna says that action will be taken, in the next two weeks, to provide an acceptable solution regarding employees of the Hambantota Port.

Issuing a communiqué the Minister said that action would be taken to provide a solution soon after holding relevant discussions with Port Administration Authority and the subject Minister.

The Government decided to lease out Hambantota port to China, to ease the country's debt burden.

In the communiqué, the Minister points out that in signing the relevant lease agreement, an instruction or recommendation was not obtained from the Labour Commissioner General regarding the future of the employees.

Meanwhile, a protest was to be held today against vesting of Hambantota Port and Mattala Airport with foreign firms.

However, Hambantota Magistrate Manjula Karunarathna ordered yesterday that the protest, not to be held, within the Hambantota jurisdiction.

The order was issued to MPs Namal Rajapaksa and D. V. Chanaka.

In response, MP Namal Rajapaksa said that the protest would be staged today, in a manner that complies with the court order.
