Grade 5 exam results bring pride to Samasara landslide victims

Most people are now beginning to forget the landslide tragedy in Samasara Mountain in Kegalle that occurred in May 2016, which devastated the lives of many.

Most of the families affected by the landslide are still living in temporary shelters.

It seems that the authorities are slow to react.

Despite all those odds, two schoolgirls brought pride and satisfaction to the community here, with the release of 2017 Grade 5 scholarship results.

One of them was Semini Udanadhavani Wijesuriya. She is a student of Sri Sumangala Primary School in Ussapitiya.

She had scored 185 marks in the Grade 5 scholarship exam.

She said she was forced to shelter at 7 temporary shelters since the landslide tragedy.

She didn't have the comforts that most of the other children enjoy. Even there was no electricity.

Her father is a painter and her sister too had passed the Grade 5 scholarship exam in a previous year.

Meanwhile, Akashi Siriwardena, who was living at another centre for the displaced, has scored 171 marks.
