UN expert arrives next week to review progress

United Nation's Special Rapporteur on the Promotion of Truth, Justice, Reparation, and Guarantees of Non-recurrence, Pablo de Greiff, will arrive in Sri Lanka next week.
 
He will stay on the island from the 10th to 23rd of this month.
 
He will review the progress made on reconciliation efforts and relevant investigations into alleged incidents.
 
In 2015, the Government of Sri Lanka committed itself to designing and implementing a comprehensive transitional justice strategy.
 
The Human Rights expert will meet Government officials at central and provincial levels, representatives of the legislature, members of the judiciary, the armed forces, law enforcement officials, religious leaders, political party representatives, the Human Rights Commission, civil society, victims’ groups, academics and representatives of the international community, during his stay in Sri Lanka.
 
He is scheduled to travel many parts of the country.
 
The final report on the visit will be presented to the Human Right's Council in September 2018.
 
Meanwhile, the Under Secretary of State for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and UK’s Asia and Pacific Minister, Mark Field, on his first official visit to Sri Lanka, met with Minister of Foreign Affairs Tilak Marapana in Colombo.
